Student Access to Microsoft Office 365 Education
Microsoft 365 applications are an important part of the job or internship search! Many Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS), which are used by some employers to screen candidates through AI technology, do not read Google Docs and will reject resumes and cover letters that are not created on Microsoft Word. Additionally, the business community defaults to Microsoft in most instances due to security reasons. The UCLA Career Center recommends all students understand and are conformable using Microsoft applications. Luckily, as UCLA students you have access to Microsoft 365 for FREE! Please see the instructions below for signing up for Microsoft Office 365 Education.
- Go to the Office 365 Education sign-up page at: https://signup.microsoft.com/signup?sku=Education
- When prompted for your school email address, please use the following format: Your_UCLA_Logon_ID@PersonalMicrosoftSoftware.ucla.edu. For example, if your UCLA Logon ID username is jbruin then you would enter jbruin@PersonalMicrosoftSoftware.ucla.edu. Do NOT input your @ucla.edu/@g.ucla.edu or @department.ucla.edu address here.
- Click Sign up.
- Click the I’m a student option.
- A verification email from Microsoft will be sent to your Google Apps for UCLA/@g.ucla.edu email address. Please be patient as it may take some time to receive the e-mail. If you are having issues receiving the verification email, please contact the IT Support Center for assistance.
- Return to the account creation page and input your name, desired password, and verification code obtained from step 4 above. Click Start.
- Click Next.
- You will now be required to provide a backup phone number and/or email address associated with your Microsoft account, in case you forget your account password.
