Core Workshops Available on the Campus Request Form

This workshop provides a general overview of the services and resources offered by the UCLA Career Center, along with our signature programs that are offered annually.

In this workshop, we cover the career development process, including the importance of self-exploration, skill development, and personal branding. We discuss the services and resources we offer for each phase of the process along with tips and action items for students to walk away feeling empowered and confident in their career development process.

Students learn best practices for writing resumes and cover letters, including important content and formatting strategies. Topics include how to build strong action statements, how to conceptualize your resume, what to avoid, and how to effectively tailor your resume and cover letter to the job description.

This workshop focuses on ways to search for jobs and internships, including platforms such as Handshake. We share the recruitment process timeline for various industries and review the importance of staying organized in the application process. We offer general tips on application materials such as resumes, cover letters, and reference sheets.

In this workshop, we cover the importance of networking and the impact it has on one’s career development. We review best practices for networking via LinkedIn and UCLA One as well as crafting an elevator pitch and building a personal brand.

Students learn how to effectively build a LinkedIn profile, ensuring their profile is the best representation of their professional skills and interests. We offer recommendations on each section of the LinkedIn profile along with examples and tips on how to navigate LinkedIn for job search and networking.

In this workshop, students will learn tips and strategies or what to do before, during, and after an interview to stand out and make a great impression. We highlight the importance of researching the company to prepare for an interview, how to effectively manage interview logistics, an how to answer some of the most common interview questions.

In this workshop, students will learn strategies for salary negotiation. We discuss how to research salaries, evaluate skills, prepare salary questions, and the appropriate time for when to initiate a negotiation conversation.

This workshop highlights the differences between a resume and a curriculum vitae (CV). We review the main components of each document, including content to include, formatting tips, the audience for each, and the purpose of each document. Students will gain more clarity and confidence on how to develop each document.
