Summer Discovery is seeking energetic, responsible, and mentorship-driven Resident Counselors (RCs) to lead our residential life community at UC Santa Barbara this summer. As an RC, you aren’t just a supervisor; you are a mentor, a guide, and a key architect of the “pre-college” experience for high school students from around the globe.

Our mission is to ensure every student feels welcomed, valued, and safe. We are looking for trustworthy, fun-loving individuals who are passionate about inclusivity, exploration, and supporting the next generation of college students.

The Role

You will live on campus at UC Santa Barbara, supervising a talented group of high school students engaged in academic research and discovery. Your primary goal is to foster a harmonious residential environment while providing the social and emotional framework for student success.

Key Responsibilities:

Student Mentorship: Support students through socio-emotional challenges, including homesickness, social integration, and navigating the transition to college-level independence.

Activity Leadership: Facilitate and lead engaging on- and off-campus activities while prioritizing student safety and accountability.

Residential Operations: Execute daily residential procedures to ensure a smooth, safe, and positive living experience.

Community Engagement: Join students for meals and social interactions, acting as a consistent, approachable role model.

Collaborative Communication: Work closely with the leadership administration team to report academic or emotional concerns and ensure timely follow-through on student needs.

Compensation & Benefits

Competitive Pay: Weekly stipend plus paid orientation.

Living Essentials: On-campus housing and a full meal plan included.

Professional Growth: Develop high-level leadership, crisis management, and communication skills for your resume.

Networking: Build lasting connections with a diverse staff of like-minded peers and professionals.

Global Impact: Mentor and inspire ambitious students from all over the world.

Position Requirements

Availability: Must reside on-campus for the full duration of the program (June 16 – July 26).

Flexibility: This is a residential role. It requires a dynamic schedule with varied hours, including evenings and weekends, to meet the needs of our community.

Age: Must be at least 20 years old by the start of the program.

Vetting: All hires must pass a DMV check, criminal background check/fingerprinting, and reference checks.
