UCLA@UCDC: Move your career forward in the nation’s capital!
Each year, the UCLA@UCDC Summer in Washington internship program supports a cohort of motivated Bruins eager to gain professional experience in Washington, D.C. Interns work with federal agencies, elected officials, nonprofit groups, and private sector employers while living in the UC Washington Center. By living and working in the nation’s capital, interns have the opportunity to network, build skills, earn internship course credit, and explore future careers.
UCLA@UCDC Summer in Washington Program Benefits
- Summer Housing at the UC Washington Center (UCDC), a community of nearly 300 UC interns which is located four blocks from the White House. The UCDC building offers fully equipped 2-bedroom apartments with kitchens which are shared by four UC students.
- Guided participation in UCDC Summer Academic Internship Program, which offers four units of internship course credit and unique employer internship connections in D.C.
- Option to enroll in the 195CE Summer Internship Course through your UCLA academic department, which gives you four additional units as well as priority on housing at the UC Washington Center.
- A UCLA Student Affairs Public Service Scholarship, which may cover the entire cost of summer session enrollment.
- Access to the full range of UCLA Career Center Student Services, including support for your internship search, applications, and interviews.
Resources to Launch Your D.C. Internship Search
- Your UCLA Handshake system is where over 500 D.C.-based employers promote their internships to UCLA candidates. Make sure your Handshake account is set up to receive our bi-weekly Internship Newsletters!
- TraverseJobs is a Career Center subscription service that connects you to current internship and job listings in Washington, D.C.
- Idealist.org is the major search site for Non-Profits and NGOs. Open the main page and use the drop-down menu to search over 5,000 organizations in the Metro DC region.
- Pay attention to early deadlines! Many Washington, DC employers have summer internship application deadlines in early fall quarter. Some deadlines occur before the UCLA quarter even begins.
Important Dates
- January 31, 2024: Priority Application Deadline – Deadline extended to February 9
- February 8: Students can Accept Housing Contracts
- April 17: Deadline to Enroll in Summer Academic Program
- June 15-16: Students Move-in!
- August 24: Students Move Out

Our Career Center team is eager to assist all prospective interns in exploring and pursuing their options.
