UCLA Graduate Career Services is hiring!

UCLA Career Center – Graduate Career Services (GCS) is hiring PhD students to join our team as Graduate Career Consultants (GCC) starting Summer 2026 for the 2026-2027 academic year (with the possibility to extend to AY2027-2028 and beyond). GCC roles are open on our Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS), STEM, and Master’s teams. 

  • Pay is $22.50/hour.
  • GCCs will be hired from 7/1/2026 – 6/30/2027, with the possibility to extend to AY2027-28 and beyond.

Required:

  • Current UCLA PhD student in good academic standing
  • Available to work 10 hours/week July 2026 – June 2027
    • Flexible hybrid schedule, with virtual and in-person programming
  • Experience working with diverse populations
  • Comfort with public speaking; strong oral and written communication skills
  • Interest in professional development programming for academic and non-academic career paths

Desired:

  • Interest/experience in digital marketing and/or social media content development
  • Prior experience working in hybrid teams

  • Collaborate with GCS staff and fellow Graduate Career Consultants to create professional development programming (e.g. workshops, panels, events) and develop resources for graduate students and postdoctoral scholars across campus
  • Advise Humanities & Social Sciences (HSS) PhD students, STEM PhD students, or HSS and STEM Master’s students through 1:1 career coaching appointments on a wide variety of career-related topics (training will be provided)
  • Outreach to graduate students, faculty, and staff to improve professional development practices across campus
  • Other responsibilities may include:
    • Coordinating alumni events for graduate students and postdocs; 
    • Facilitating professional development workshops for general and targeted audiences; 
    • Creating and scheduling e-newsletter, digital marketing, and/or social media content; 
    • Conducting program assessments and analyze best practices for graduate student/postdoctoral career development programming; and/or 
    • Other projects, co-developed with GCS staff    

  • Graduate Career Services (GCS), a unit of the UCLA Career Center, works specifically with graduate students and postdoctoral scholars. Our team is made up of 3 full time, professional staff (all UCLA PhD alumni) and 9 part time, graduate student staff with diverse educational, professional, and personal backgrounds.
  • GCS team members are divided into 3 sub-teams, based on their primary constituency:
    • Humanities & Social Sciences (HSS) Team, serving predominantly HSS PhD students;
    • STEM Team, serving predominantly STEM PhD students; and
    • Master’s Team, serving predominantly HSS and STEM Master’s students.
  • In Summer 2022, our team defined and clarified three core values that guide our work:
    • Equity: In recognizing that our clients face structural barriers in society that inhibit the full participation of historically marginalized groups in pursuing their career goals, GCS aims to design programs, provide insights, and share resources to help our clients better navigate social inequities.
    • Empowerment: We instill confidence, provide information, and direct resources to empower our graduate students and postdoctoral scholars to feel ready and able to pursue their goals. 
    • Adaptability: GCS creates programming that reflects current market conditions and the needs of our constituents to best support them as they navigate their careers.
