Everything is virtual nowadays, especially with the impacts of COVID-19. Most likely, employers will be introduced to you through your online presence before they ever meet you in person.

LinkedIn

The most obvious platform for building a professional digital brand is LinkedIn. The networking site allows members to create profiles and interact with professionals. Members can invite anyone to become a connection including potential employers. Make sure your profile is complete. The profile allows users to highlight their education, experience, skills & endorsements, and interests.

Use LinkedIn as a platform to tell your story. Express to employers why you’re the right person for the job. Describe your background in detail. List your experience as well as any relevant skills and interests. Specify why you are the most qualified person for the job.

The best way to get the most mileage out of LinkedIn and other networking sites is to stay actively engaged. Join groups, strike up a conversation, and comment on articles. You never know what kind of connections you’ll make through your LinkedIn interactions.

Each of these platforms gives you the opportunity to express yourself in different ways. It also allows you to build your brand in a way that’s unique to your professional goals.

Think about how you want to present yourself on social media platforms and focus your brand around that vision. Facebook is also a great platform to find professional-related events like career fairs and workshops. Meanwhile, Twitter and Instagram give you the opportunity to directly connect with potential mentors in your field.

On a separate note, employers are likely to check your social media pages before they hire you. Make sure your profiles are presentable. Go back through old photos and posts. Everything on your profile should be ready for an employer’s eyes.
