Museum Technician

Schedule: Tuesday – Saturday (9:00 am to 4:00 pm*)
The Kreeger Museum is seeking a highly productive Museum Technician to assist with the efficient and effective functioning of the museum’s physical facilities and operational processes. This person will play a pivotal role in ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for staff, and visitors. This position requires strong problem-solving skills to manage various operational aspects while contributing to the museum’s overall success.
The Museum Technician supports the rest of team in ensuring the safety and security of the art collection, building and grounds, as well as the smooth functioning of the building. *They must be able to be onsite as needed – this will require sometimes being onsite before 9:00 AM and/or after 4:00 PM.
RESPONSIBILITIES include:
Security of building and grounds and collection:
- Serve as Gallery Security. It is the responsibility of the Gallery Security team to provide a welcoming environment to visitors and remind them, when needed, of our gallery rules to ensure the safety of the artwork, the building, staff, and visitors. The Gallery Security team will be courteous and clear and provide a welcoming and pleasant experience for all visitors.
- Security of Building and Grounds: In the absence of the Head of Facilities, serve as point of contact for building and grounds contractors.
- Assist in conducting daily check of all galleries, storage spaces and grounds.
Other:
- Complete small carpentry, repair, and maintenance projects as needed in gallery and non- gallery spaces.
- Coordinate and support all aspects of art and exhibition space preparation, installation, and deinstallation, including lighting and art handling.
- Set up and monitor AV/PA for Museum events and performances.
- Coordinate support for museum events, including setup, and cleanup.
- Other tasks assigned by the Director.
Required Qualifications:
- Previous experience in an art museum or gallery.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to contribute to a positive and collaborative culture that welcomes all audiences.
- Enthusiasm for working both independently and as a team.
- Access to a vehicle.
- Ability to stand for minimum of four hours.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
- Ability to use portable hydraulic ladder as well as stand ladders.
