Under the direction of the chief information analyst, the technical support intern works with other Center for Information Technology & Analytics (CITA) team members to provide on-site tier one technical support to end-users, diagnosing and resolving hardware and software issues, and installing and configuring computer systems.

OIG is accepting technical support intern applications for summer 2026. Start and end dates are flexible.

DUTIES:

  • Troubleshoots first tier software and hardware problems
  • Responds to in-person, email, or online requests for technical support
  • Coordinates with team members to resolve or escalate user problems
  • Sets up and configures office desktops, laptops, computer hardware, printers, mobile devices, and peripheral equipment
  • Maintains inventory of IT hardware and software assets and mobile devices
  • Prepares training materials and instructs users in the operation of new or upgraded software applications
  • Performs related duties as required

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must have completed the first year of study towards computer sciences or information technology. Must be able to abide by OIG’s Confidentiality policies.

DESIRED EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Interest in the work of the Office of Inspector General, including government oversight and civic engagement
  • Some knowledge of troubleshooting computer-related problems
  • Some knowledge of hardware and software installation and configuration procedures and techniques
  • Some knowledge of commercial computer systems applications and their capabilities
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, monitor, and execute competing assignments, and control deadlines
  • Capability to collaborate with colleagues from a wide array of technical and professional disciplines and backgrounds in and across all the office’s sections
  • Consciousness of diversity, inclusion, and equity challenges across communities, including for underserviced and underrepresented communities in the City of Chicago, and commitment to address those challenges and positively contribute to OIG’s internal culture of inclusion, respect, and community

ANNUAL SALARY: Unpaid. Internships must be completed for course credit.

SCHEDULE: The working hours for this position are flexible. This role requires in-person work.
