Academic Year Internship Program:

Program Dates: September 16, 2024 – April 18, 2025
Time Commitment: 16-24 hours per week. Exact schedule to be determined based on business need. We will do our best to accommodate course schedules.

Universal Filmed Entertainment Group: (UFEG) consists of the operations to produce, acquire, market and distribute filmed entertainment worldwide in various media formats for theatrical, home entertainment, television and other distribution platforms. TV Entertainment: The Entertainment Group develops and schedules the network’s primetime, late-night, and daytime entertainment programming, including USA, SYFY, Bravo, E!, Oxygen, and Universal Kids. NBC’s quality programs and balanced line-up have earned the network critical acclaim, numerous awards and ratings success, including most recently winning the traditional September-to-May season in primetime’s key demo, marking the network’s third win in four years. NBC has earned more Emmy Awards than any network in television history.
Operations & Technology: (O&T) is a $1B operating cash flow ($1.5B FCF) division of NBCUniversal. The group functions as a global shared service within NBCUniversal performing critical functions including Media, Broadcast and Studio Operations & Production, Content Supply Chain, Information Technology and Engineering, as well as Cyber Security. The group operates from numerous locations around the world, including New York, New Jersey, Los Angeles, Denver, Connecticut, and London.

Direct-to-Consumer Human Resources: Direct-To-Consumer Human Resources is a dynamic, collaborative team that strives to grow and develop talent, maintain strong relationships with our clients, and provide new hires with the best possible onboarding experience. You will gain experience performing a broad range of HR and operational support for the Direct-To-Consumer business/Peacock and interfacing across the organization.
Media Group Talent & Org Development: Learning & Development currently spans across Media Group, with touchpoints in the Ad Sales, Sports, Entertainment, and DTC organizations. The intern would be focused on both DTC and Media Group Learning & Development initiatives (having exposure and hands on experience to programs across Media Group organizations.) Interns have the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience, develop essential HR skills, and contribute to Media Group’s overall learning culture and talent development efforts.
Ops & Tech Human Resources: The O&T intern will have exposure to HR projects that span: onboarding, rewards and recognition, performance feedback, talent attraction and development, and HR’s business impact. In the day to day, you will help solve problems involving: Benefits, Payroll, Compensation, HR Operations, Talent Acquisition, Finance and Data Analytics. The intern will also have exposure to the team’s union projects and CBA analysis.
Film Human Resources: The UFEG HR intern will support the Theatrical teams in the Universal Filmed Entertainment Group (or Studio Group). This intern will be partnering with the HR teams across the studio’s Theatrical Marketing, Distribution and Corporate Function teams and have access to the broader UFEG HR team. The intern can expect exposure to the following over the course of the internship: NBCUniversal HR Systems and Processes, employee lifecycle support (hiring, promotion, adjustment, termination, performance review and compensation planning, preparation for project/system launches, and opportunities to shadow HR business partners at different levels.
Global Distribution – International Human Resources, Film: This intern will support the Sales, Marketing, Finance, Business & Legal Affairs, and Research & Strategy functions of Global Distribution, partner with the HR Director and HR Manager to strategize and facilitate initiatives, and provide day-to-day support.
USG – Internal Communications & Events, Human Resources: This intern will report to the Employee Experience Specialist while working with other members of the team to gain exposure across the business. They will primarily support employee engagement initiatives, events, and communication, as well as providing day-to-day HR Generalist support. Additionally, they will gain exposure to entertainment industry processes that support the needs of employees within Universal Studio Group.
Television & Streaming DEI: NBCUniversal’s TV DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) team, also known as NBCU LAUNCH, is one of the longest standing diversity, equity and inclusion departments in the entertainment industry. This team is committed to discovering and developing the next generation of content creators from diverse and underrepresented backgrounds through our groundbreaking talent development programs that focus on helping to launch careers and forging pathways to continued success within NBCUniversal. TV DEI’s programs and partnerships provide creators with access to networking and staffing opportunities, professional mentorship, and career growth, while also honing their self-branding strategies, pitching skills, and overall knowledge of the network and studio landscape. The TV DEI team comprehensively supports and tracks creators’ career momentum as they move through the business and reach new creative heights.
Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
Must be actively enrolled in a degree-granting program at an accredited institution during the entire duration of the program (September 2024 through April 2025). December 2024 graduates are not eligible for our 2024-2025 Academic Year Program.
Current class standing of sophomore or above (30 credits).
Must be authorized to work in the United States throughout the entire duration of the internship (September 2024 to April 2025). Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
Must be available to work 16-24 hours per week from September 16, 2024 to April 18, 2025.
Must be willing to work in Universal City, CA.
Desired Characteristics:
Students with class standing of junior or above preferred.
Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.
Interest in the HR field, DEI, corporate communications and culture, and/or employee engagement.
Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information.
Strong-problem solving skills, with the ability to self-start and streamline.
Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the professional savvy of communicating at all levels.
Well organized with strong time management & multi-tasking skills.
Ability to take direction from multiple stakeholders & balance numerous projects simultaneously.
Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
Experience with SAP a plus.
The hourly rate for undergraduate student interns is $17.00
The hourly rate for graduate student interns is $25.00
INFORMATION FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS ATTENDING U.S. UNIVERSITIES:
To participate in NBCUniversal’s 2024-2025 Academic Year internship program, you must confirm at the time of interview that you will be able to provide US work authorization documentation for the entire duration of the internship. Since the NBCU Academic Year Internship Program spans the traditional “Fall” and “Spring” semesters, you should talk to the DSO at your school’s International Students Services Office about your need to apply for CPT work authorization twice to ensure you are authorized to work both semesters and throughout the entirety of the program.
Please also note that future visa sponsorship at NBCUniversal is rarely available for post-grad employment opportunities.
