Join our team as a Public Health AmeriCorps member at the Arlington Street Community Center to empower communities and create lasting change in Nashua while gaining valuable leadership experience! This member role directly supports public health capacity-building efforts by addressing social determinants of health, increasing access to essential resources, reducing barriers to participation, strengthening community networks, and fostering community engagement.

The Arlington Street Community Center is the result of Mayor Jim Donchess’ acceptance of the White House initiative My Brother’s Keeper Community Challenge under the Obama Administration. The MBK Challenge is a national call to action to build and execute robust plans to ensure that all young people – no matter who they are, where they are from, or the circumstances into which they are born – can achieve their full potential. The Center seeks to eliminate opportunity gaps, barriers, and challenges facing our community, particularly for youth of color and individuals in marginalized communities. Programming created and offered by the center falls into one of 4 core focus areas: academic achievement, health and social services, youth and family development, and community involvement. Everything that the center offers is free to all community members. The Center collaborates with over 20 community partners to offer free programs including free dance classes, tutoring, a pop-up pantry, play groups, and more! The Center’s location was intentionally chosen in the Crown Hill neighborhood due to our neighbor, the Dr. Crisp Elementary School, being one of the highest need schools here in Nashua. Our neighborhood’s Latinx population is growing by the year in the heart of NH’s most diverse city of Nashua. We have over 1,000 followers on FB and over 500 recipients of our email list. On average, we serve about 200 community members per week in public programming, and even more through private events.

As an AmeriCorps member, you will:

  • Plan and lead free community events, including pop-up pantries, parent playgroups, tutoring sessions, and enrichment programs.
  • Collaborate with local organizations and residents to strengthen programs that support academic success, health, and social services.
  • Educate families on childcare access, provide food at events, and schedule thoughtfully to remove barriers to participation.
  • Promote well-being, youth and family development, and civic engagement, with a focus on underserved populations.
  • Listen to community voices, ensuring programs align with real needs and enhance existing efforts.
  • Manage a small budget for event supplies and food to sustain programming.
  • Recruit and coordinate volunteers to expand outreach and impact.
