Digital Content Intern (Hybrid or Remote)

Pay: $20/hour; course credit, where applicable

Hours: 20 hours per week. Flexible schedule available.

Term Length: Two 16-week terms (must commit to both)

  • Fall Term: August 25 – December 13, 2025
  • Spring Term: January 12 – May 2, 2026

Location:
This position is hybrid, fully remote or in-person in our Arlington, VA offices, depending on your location and preference.

The Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) is the leading professional association for educators dedicated to advancing the success of children and youth with disabilities and/or gifts and talents. For over 100 years, CEC has been a trusted presence in the field of special education—offering resources, professional development, advocacy, and community.

You will contribute to meaningful projects that support educators across the country as they prepare for our annual convention—our largest and most high-impact event of the year. You will be joining a collaborative, purpose-driven team that values creativity, accessibility, and making a difference in the lives of students and educators.

What You Will Learn:

  • How to manage and publish content using a professional content management system
  • Best practices for digital accessibility and user experience in web design
  • How to create and adapt visuals for digital platforms, including webpages, emails, and social media
  • The fundamentals of brand consistency, digital marketing, and content strategy
  • Real-world skills in project management, cross-functional teamwork, and meeting deadlines in a professional environment

What You Will Do:

  • Support the digital team with web content updates and maintenance
  • Assist with design and layout of digital materials, including graphics and webpages
  • Help organize and create content for our annual convention and related promotions
  • Respond to and address internal design and web content requests
  • Provide real-time design support in the lead-up to and during the convention

What We Are Looking For:

  • Enrolled in communications, digital media, web design, or a related program at a university
  • Experience with web content management systems (e.g., WordPress, Drupal, or similar)
  • Familiarity with design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar)
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and a collaborative spirit
  • Comfort working independently in a hybrid or fully remote environment
