BASIC FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:

Under the direct supervision of the District Director and Intern Coordinator, the District Intern will have the primary responsibility for general office duties including, but not limited to, answering constituent phone calls and requests with appropriate follow-up, processing mail, drafting constituent letters, conducting research on legislation, monitoring news sources and current events in the district, attending community events, shadowing District Representatives in community meetings, event planning, casework, and monitoring and responding to the public inbox and LCMS for the Member. Applicants must be organized, detailed, and able to work well with others.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

Strong oral and written communication skills are essential in addition to proficiency with Microsoft Office and PCs. Senate District 20 students preferred.

Internships are designed to be an educational experience. You will be required to work between 16 hours per week.

Before being hired, candidates for this position are required to participate in the Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) Employee Pull Notice Program and must complete a DMV Form INF 1101, which authorizes the release of their driving record to the Senate Rules Committee. You must possess a valid California Driver’s License with a clean driving record. In addition you are required to have proof of liability insurance at all times. NOTE: Information from your driving record will be shared with the hiring supervisor which may impact your hiring status.

LOCATION, SALARY AND FILING DATE:

There is 1 (one) intern opportunity in Senator Menjivar’s Van Nuys district office.

Salary is $20 per hour.

No benefits are provided with this classification.
