Ben Mendoza
he/him/él
Assistant Coordinator
San Diego State University
I approach my practitioner-based and research-based work through the lens created by my identity of being a first-generation, low-income, heterosexual, cisgender Latino man from Orange County, California. My Mexican and Bolivian family centered heavily on “traditional” family values, which narrowed my perspective of how I, as a Latino man, was supposed to navigate the world. This limited my ability to grow into my authentic self and live out equity-minded values. Through the eye-opening introduction of identity-based support and community in my undergraduate experience, I began to find my passion for holistically assisting marginalized and underrepresented students in higher education.
