Scholarships for Study Abroad
The following are a few of the many scholarship opportunities available to help students fund their trips abroad.

Rotary Scholarships
A $23,000 non-degree scholarship open to graduate and undergraduate students who are studying abroad for one year. You must attend an info session to pick up an application. For more information check out www.wvrc.net or attend an information session at the Internship and International Opportunities Office, UCLA Career Center.

Freeman Awards
Summer- March 1, Fall- April 1
Study in Asia: awards range from $3,000-$7,000 and the student must propose and present a creative and informative service plan to the university, describing the experiences gained. Application is available online at www.iie.org/pgms/freeman-asia.

Institute of International Education (IIE)
Financial Aid is available for students traveling to the Asia/Pacific region (including Australia, New Zealand, India, and Pacific Island nations). Study abroad must be between June 1, 2001 and May 31, 2002. For more information, go to www.iie.org.

National Security Education Program (NSEP)
Scholarships available to US citizens studying abroad in critical world areas (Africa, Asia, South America…). For a semester, $8,000, and for year programs, $16,000. For more information, go to www.iie.org/nsep.

Hostelling International - Travel Grant
Award-$500. Candidate must be between 17 and 26 years old. Student must submit a project that will be presented to the committee after the completion of travel that inspires others to stay in hostels while traveling. For more questions, call 310.393.6263.

Council on International Education Exchange
Peking University and Nanjing University. Junior, senior, or graduate student who is interested in a career teaching modern foreign languages. Two years of college level Mandarin required.

Council Student Scholarship Program
For students traveling abroad for the academic year, all programs and destinations are eligible. Information and application available at www.ciee.org.

The Benjamin A. Gilman Study Abroad Scholarship
Must be undergrad student accepted to accredited program and specifically be receiving Federal Pell Grant (financial aid). Year or semester aid is available up to $5,000. Must be a US citizen to apply. For more information, go to www.iie.org/gilman.

Department of State - Bundestag Youth Exchange
Stipends, international flights, German language school and internships available. All fields are welcome and no German knowledge necessary. For more information and/or application, go to www.cdsintl.org/cbyxintro.html.

Bridging Scholarship for Study in Japan
Financial Aid available to students spending spring quarter studying in Japan. Must write a personal statement and submit a letter of recommendation. For more information and/or application, go to www.colorado.edu/ealld/atj/Bridging/scholarships.html

Kate Neal Kinley Memorial Fellowship
Three fellowships available ranging from $7,500 to $15,000 to students interested in Fine Arts. Open to graduates focusing on art, architecture, music, theatre, or urban planning. For more information, call 217.333.1661.

UCLA Career Center Lab
There are numerous books available that highlight financial aid for specific programs and destinations. Books to look into are: The Scholarship Book 2000, by Daniel J. Cassidy, and Financial Aid for Study Abroad by Gail Ann Schlachter and R. David Weber.
